Air Fryer Cod Bites
These Air Fryer Cod Bites are crispy, flaky, and totally family-approved. They taste like restaurant-style fried fish but without the oil or mess. It is one of my go-to air fryer fish recipes for busy weeknights when everyone’s hungry and I need something fast. Perfect for dinner, snacks, or even a fun appetizer for the kids!
Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 10 minutes mins
- 1 pound cod fillets cut into bite-size pieces
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Olive oil spray
- Optional for dipping:
- Tartar sauce ranch, or a squeeze of lemon
Pat the cod dry with paper towels and cut into small even chunks. Dry fish means crispy coating!
Set out three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Dip each piece into flour, then egg, then roll in the breadcrumb mix until coated all over.
Set the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it heat for about 3 minutes.
Spray the basket lightly with oil, place cod bites in a single layer, and spray the tops too. Cook for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown and crispy.
Serve warm with dipping sauce and a squeeze of lemon. Watch them disappear fast!
Tips
-
Dry your cod really well before coating — this makes a big difference in crispiness.
-
Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed.
-
If you want extra crunch, double dip! Coat the fish twice in egg and breadcrumbs.
-
Use any mild white fish you have — tilapia, haddock, or pollock work too.
-
A quick spray of oil helps the coating crisp up beautifully.
Variations
-
Spicy Cod Bites: Add a pinch of cayenne or chili powder to the breadcrumbs.
-
Parmesan Crunch: Mix in 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese with the panko for a cheesy flavor.
-
Gluten-Free: Swap the flour and breadcrumbs with gluten-free versions.
-
Lemon Herb: Add dried parsley, dill, or lemon zest to the coating for a bright flavor.
-
Kid Favorite: Skip the spices and just use salt, pepper, and a little garlic powder for a milder version.
