Ingredients
Bread: 4 slices
white, sourdough, or whole wheat
Cheese: 4 slices
cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite melting cheese
Butter: 2 tablespoons
softened
Optional Add-ins:
Tomato slices: 4-6 slices
Cooked bacon: 2-3 strips
Avocado slices: 1/2 avocado
Caramelized onions: 1/4 cup
Mustard or mayonnaise: 1 tablespoon
Instructions
Prep the Bread:
Spread a thin, even layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
Assemble the Sandwich:
Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, on a clean surface.
Layer with cheese slices, adding any optional add-ins if desired.
Top with another slice of bread, butter-side up.
Cook the Sandwich:
Heat a skillet over medium heat.
Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.
Serve:
Remove from the skillet and let cool for a minute before cutting.
Serve warm with your favorite soup or side dish.
Notes
Use a cast iron skillet or non-stick pan for best results.
Adjust the heat as needed to avoid burning the bread before the cheese melts.
