Place all ingredients on your work surface and get everything ready.
Spread peanut butter evenly on one slice of bread, covering edge to edge.
Spread jelly evenly on the second slice, keeping the layer moderate.
Place both slices together with the filling inside and press gently.
Spread softened butter on the outer side of one slice. Flip and butter the other side.
Heat a pan or grill over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes.
Place the sandwich on the hot surface and cook for 2 to 3 minutes without moving it.
Check the bottom. When golden brown, flip carefully using a spatula.
Cook the second side for another 2 to 3 minutes until crisp and golden.
Remove from heat and let it rest for 1 minute.
Slice diagonally and serve warm.
